"Chris WAKE UP! Why is the kitchen in such a mess? Honestly, I can't leave you lot alone for five minutes without some kind of domestic catastrophe. The kitchen looks like it had an explosion of Chocolate sauce and Ice cream. "Come with me to the kitchen", Diane says to Chris, as she starts down the hall, "I'll tell you about my evening while we clean up".
Chris, who has been startled awake with Diane's first words, finally understands what she was saying, and as it had dawned on him that the boys have obviously helped themselves to a light snack and that the ensuing clean up will be peppered with comments about men and their inability to maintain order etc, he follows Diane into the kitchen.
"So tell me what you did?" he asks as he grabs a tea towel and waits for orders.
"Well, Susan was there and Sonia Irvine, Eddie’s Sister and they were talking about your upcoming fund raiser at Le Manior for the crocus Trust. I can hardly wait to taste that food, Raymond is a fabulous cook. It will be so much fun! Anyway Eddie has a new girlfriend some blonde bombshell of a model, and his life in the fast lane seems to be affecting his driving. So there you have your answer as to why Michael Schumacher is always the winner. He keeps his mind on the driving. So what did you do this evening?"
" Well, I let Rosanna read me a story that some of my fans have written on the internet, which was quite good. Then I picked up that book ‘The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy’ and read for a while and then I must have fallen asleep. I had the strangest dream about a leprechaun asking me riddles about the meaning of Life. It was all very strange. By the way I'm golfing tomorrow I haven't been in ages so are you going to join me?"
"Well I really should take Rosanna into Dublin, she’s been asking all week, really Chris, she should have her own car. Most of her friends do and she needs her independence as well. All the girls at her school practically drive themselves everywhere and she keeps dropping hints. Also I have some shopping I can get done as well."
So the kitchen was cleaned up and family matters discussed. Chris and Diane returned to the living room with a drink and settle down to watch a little TV. As Diane sits down in her chair she sees a dirty old bag beside the chair where she had found Chris dreaming.
"What’s in this bag?" She asks, and as she goes over towards it Chris sees what she is looking at and is startled to see a dirty old sacking bag beside the chair.
