Fifth segment of "A Bit of Irish Stew"
"So light headed, it’s as if everything is all clear and bright. I know what I must do. I must be honest with Tess. If I tell her how I feel about Diane and how the arguments between Tess and I are a drain on us emotionally, spiritually and creatively, I'm sure she will understand. I've got to call Pat, talk to you later Mum."

"Pat, it’s me Chris. The most amazing thing has happened!"

Chris tells Pat about the party and the beautiful girl and also that his Epic is finished and he is proud of how it turned out.

"That’s Great Chris", says Pat." So what are you going to tell Tess?"

" I haven't figured out all the details, but I know if I'm honest she will understand. I can't stop thinking of Diane. I can see her everywhere I go it’s amazing. It must be love!!" "I gotta go now, I want to call Diane and see if she feels the same way. Bye for now."

"Hello Diane, it’s me Chris. Did you enjoy last night?"

" It was wonderful. I'm surprised you’re up so early."

"It was absolutely the best night. I feel like I've met a soul mate, some one I can talk to and share my dreams. It’s been a long time since I've felt like that."

To which Diane replied, "Yes, me too."

Silently to himself Chris yells YES!!

"So while you’re in town will you see me again, maybe dinner tomorrow night?"

"I’d love to, how about eight?"

"Great I'll pick you up."

Now all he has to do is talk to Tess. He steals himself for one more phone call.

"Hi Tess, it’s me Chris. I really need to talk to you; can we meet somewhere half way tonight? You see I'm at my parents place."

"Oh Chris, I'm so glad you called. How About I drive down there and meet you tonight at the beach around eight?"

After he'd hung up he wonders if it was a good idea to meet in such a public place, but then Tess had sounded so positive almost as if she knew it was time for them to say their goodbyes, and he is left feeling hopeful.

She was already there when he arrived. They sat down together staring out to sea not saying a word, and then both started to speak at once.

"Go ahead", said Chris always the gentleman.

"Well I’m sorry I've been so irritable and argumentative, but--- there’s no easy way to say this, so here goes. Chris, I'm pregnant."

"Oh good grief! Are you sure?"

"Yes, I saw a doctor yesterday and he confirmed it. He thinks I'm about ten weeks along. What shall we do?"
