The start of "A Bit of Irish Stew"
Written by Jeri Neufeld

"While laying in her bed still soaked with perspiration from the delivery of her new son, Ladyfair could hear her husband in the halls approaching the room. She thought about how she would look if he were to enter the bedchamber at that moment, so she asked the midwife if she would quickly wipe her face for her and help her to sit up so she could hold her little baby.

As the Colonel entered the room his Ladyfair said, "awe Colonel, come and see!! Come and see - we have made the perfect little man!!" She smiles her most beautiful smile while watching her love's eyes search out the bundle she held.

The Colonel walked over to his Ladyfair and stared down at the bundle she held close to her breast, and to himself he said, "yes indeed there lies a perfect little man." He stood there - so still - for the longest time, just enjoying the wonderful feelings that came over him watching his new son sleep. When suddenly this huge smile came across his rugged face, and he shouted, " you are absolutely right, my jewel, and just what now should we name this perfect little man??"

"Why not Christopher", she answered shyly. "After all, it was truly a blessing from above wouldn't you say, my love?"

So it was, that day in Argentina on the 15th day of October, 1948 that a perfect little man named Christopher was born to an English gentleman and an Irish beauty. The start of "A Bit Of The Irish Stew".

As the years moved on, Christopher grew, and also to the horror of his parents, so did his imagination. He knew he had an obligation to himself and his family to do well in school, so as to have a start of respectability, and to obtain a good job. Maybe get married and have a family. "But, as men are known to do, Chris would dream of the stars lay hidden in the sky, and he would say to himself, "if only I could fly - go out to outer space and join the stars just once. Just once before I settle down... just once..."
